DNA and the Book of Mormon as Examined by a Molecular Biologist (MP3)
Critics continue to claim n++ despite the cogent arguments of numerous experts in DNA research n++ that DNA has proven to Book of Mormon to be fictitious. Molecular Biologist, Ryan Parr n++ whose DNA sequencing research of Egyptian Mummies has been profiled by PBS, and whose DNA studies have helped identify victims of the Titanic disaster n++ refutes the claims of the critics. Parr argues that DNA science, contrary to the critics, has not disproved the Book of Mormon. Ryan Parr began his research career at the University of Utah in the Department of Cellular, Viral, and Molecular Biology in 1980. He has participated in a variety of intricate projects such as: nuclear differentiation within eucaryotic cells, mechanisms of viral infections, and causes of Lupus. Moreover, as a Senior Research Specialist at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center in the Department of Hematology and Oncology, he worked on the problem of cancer becoming resistant to drug therapy. One of Dr. Parr's major projects is the DNA sequencing of Egyptian mummies found at the Dakhleh Oasis, which has been in the news over the last few years. His work on the mummy DNA was profiled in the PBS series "Secrets of the Dead." His most recent work involves the use of mtDNA to identify unclaimed victims from the 1912 RMS Titanic disaster. Dr. Parr has authored and co-authored many mitochondrial DNA studies of Native Americans, specializing in ancient DNA. Some of these studies include "Ancient DNA Analysis of Fremont Amerindians of the Great Salt Lake Wetlands" (American Journal of Physical Anthropology), "Ancient DNA: Methods, Progress, and Perspectives" (American Journal of Human Biology), and "Molecular Genetic Variation in Prehistoric Inhabitants of the Eastern Great Basin" (Understanding Prehistoric Lifeways in the Great Basin Wetlands: Bioarcheological Reconstruction and Interpretation). Dr. Parr is Vice President of Research and Development at Genesis Genomics in Ontario, Canada. Before joining Genesis Genomics, Ryan was an Associate Professor of Anthropology and Co-Director of Ancient DNA Studies at Lakehead University. Ryan has over twenty years of research experience, and has supervised four students in the pursuit of their theses. Ryan received his M.A. in Ancient Near Eastern Studies from Brigham Young University and his Ph.D. in Biological Anthropology from the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah.
