Children of Lehi: DNA and the Book of Mormon (DVD)
Some critics claim that current DNA research proves the Book of Mormon to be fiction. Jeffrey Meldrum examines such arguments and shows how they are not only premature in determining Book of Mormon historicity, but why DNA evidence might never be able to prove the Book of Mormon true or false. D. Jeffrey Meldrum, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Anatomy and Anthropology at Idaho State University and research associate of the Idaho Museum of Natural History. He received a B.S. and M.S. in Zoology from Brigham Young University specializing in vertebrate locomotion; a Ph.D. in anatomical sciences, with an emphasis in physical anthropology, from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, in 1989. His dissertation research was on terrestrial adaptations in the feet of African monkeys and implications for the evolution of hominid bipedalism. He conducted postdoctoral work at Duke University, where he added to his interests the evolutionary history of Neotropical primates, participating in fieldwork in Argentina and Colombia, and doing phylogeny reconstruction based on mitochondrial DNA sequences. His first appointment was at Northwestern University Medical School's department of Cell, Molecular and Structural Biology, as part of the Evolutionary Morphology Group. While in Chicago he was a repeat invited speaker at the Chicago Center for Religion and Science. He returned to his home state of Idaho in 1993. At ISU he teaches human anatomy to health-professions graduate students, biological evolution, and primate studies. His research centers on vertebrate evolutionary morphology, with a renewed emphasis on the dynamics of the hominoid foot and the emergence of human bipedalism. He also directs a paleontological field project in southwestern Montana, collecting fossil Eocene mammals. He has published numerous scientific and popular articles. He has co-edited two volumes on the paleontology of Idaho, a volume on Mormonism and Evolution, and he is senior editor of From Biped to Strider: The Emergence of Modern Human Walking Running and Resource Transport. He is acting director of a newly organized ISU Center for Motion Analysis and Biomechanics. He is active in issues relating to science education, participating in annual symposia on the teaching of evolution at the Idaho Science Teachers Association. iscounts).
