Potter and Wellington have both spent many years living in, and investigating, the terrains of Arabia. Their presentation (complete with video footage) shows the plausibility of NephiÆs account of their travels through the wilderness, and the unlikelihood that Joseph Smith could have known about such details.

George Potter's interest in archaeology began as a LDS missionary in the Andes Mountains of Peru and Bolivia. He graduated with high honors from the University of California at San Diego, and two years later received a master's degree from the University of California at Berkeley. On leaving the university he became a certified public accountant, and joined one of the Big 5 CPA firms. Later he entered management and consulting, two professions which have taken him to over 50 countries, including a five-year stay in Zurich, Switzerland. For the last ten years he has owned Bear River Training and Consultancy, a training, e-learning and financial services company located in Saudi Arabia. It was while exploring the deserts of Arabia that his interest in archaeology was rekindled. He has lectured at universities in the United States, Germany, Switzerland and Saudi Arabia. Besides co-authoring a book, he has produced eight films on his Book of Mormon research. He also researched and co-authored the book Discovering the Valley of Lemuel: Bountiful and 79 Other Reasons Why First Nephi Is A True History.

Brother Potter's discovery of a Valley of Lemuel candidate was published by FARMS/BYU in the November 1999 issue of the Journal of Book of Mormon Studies. Since then he has made presentations on his research to FARMS/BYU, BYU Alumni Association of Los Angeles, Ancient Americas Foundation and the staff of the Ensign Magazine.

Dr. Richard Wellington was born in 1957 in England. His family joined the Church in 1960 when they were living in Dnsseldorf, Germany. He graduated from GuyÆs Hospital Dental School, University of London, in 1980 with Honors in Paedodontics and Orthodontics. After graduation he moved to South Africa where he taught at the University of the Witswatersrand in Johannesburg and was part time in private practice in Sandton. In 1982 he returned to the UK and earned a Masters in Conservative Dentistry at the Eastman Institute, London University. In December 1983 he went to Saudi Arabia to work for the Arabian American Oil Company, where he worked for over 18 years as a specialist in Prosthodontics. It was here that Richard met George Potter and they started their work on Old World Book of Mormon geography. In 2000 Richard graduated as a C.D.T. (certified dental technician) from the US National Board of Certification. He returned to the UK in 2002 and presently work in private practice in Folkestone, England.
