Shining New Light On the Mountain Meadows Massacre (CD)
What happened at Mountain Meadows and why? Was Brigham Young at fault? Gene Sessions answers these questions and more in this hard-hitting and balanced presentation. Sessions also looks at the subject of two new books: Will Bagley's Blood of the Prophets: Brigham Young and the Mountain Meadows Massacre and Sally Denton's American Massacre: The Tragedy at Mountain Meadows. While Sessions felt Bagley's book demonstrated good research and knowledge of the sources, he said the interpretation and analysis was lacking. In regard to Denton's book, he could not find any redeeming value. BONUS: The Windows Media Video format includes Craig Foster's presentation, The Unchanging Ways of anti-Mormons. Dr. Gene A. Sessions teaches courses in American civilization, U.S. history, Utah history, and other topics at Weber State University. A native of Ogden, he earned his a B.A. from Utah State University (1970), an M.A. from Florida State University (1972), and a Ph.D. from Florida State University (1974). His research interests include Utah, Mormonism, the West, science and religion, international relations, and foreign debt. While a young student at Weber State University, Dr. Sessions became fascinated with history as a way to understand life and human motivation. After earning his Ph.D., he returned to his alma mater and has taught in the Department of History since 1975. iscounts).
