Life Sketches of Orson Spencer and Others & the History of Primary Work
This is one of those classic volumes that helps to come to an understanding of pioneer life in Utah. Set in Farmington, Utah, the author relates personal anecdotes of poverty, an active church-life, insights into the lives of several general authorities, and telling glimpses into her own life and character. Woven into her everyday situations are the beginnings of the Primary Organization and her continuing dialog with Eliza R. Snow (the General Relief Society President) about its implementation. Viewed from its inception, Sister Rogers documents the rationale, the philosophy, and the concerns for the children of the LDS Church. Orson Spencer entered the teaching profession in 1824, then studied law, and subsequently pursued the study of theology. He graduated in 1829 as valedictorian and served as pastor in the Baptist Church. Spencer was introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was baptized in 1841.
