Brown has a degree in history from Brigham Young University. He is the author of Symbols in Stone: Symbolism on the Early Temples of the Restoration with Paul Thomas Smith; The Gate of Heaten: Insights on the Doctrines and Symbols of the Temples, The Plan of Salvation: Doctrinal Notes and Commentary, and Plates of Gold. In addition, he has published several articles with the Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies (FARMS) at Brigham Young University and the Foundation for Apologetic Information and Research (FAIR) in Mesa, Arizona. Val Brinkerhoff is currently an Associate Professor of Photography in the Visual Arts Department at Brigham Young University. Curently in his third year of "Sacred Places & Symbolism" research project, Val, along with a number of his students, has traveled around the globe, documenting ancient and modern sacred sites.
