Joseph Smith's Kirtland: Eyewitness Accounts

Karl Ricks Anderson, Salt Lake City, Utah: Deseret Book, 1989, 1996, 6x9" softbound, 286 pages. ISBN: 157345205X

The Prophet Joseph Smith lived in Kirtland, Ohio, longer than in any other place. There, many pivotal events of the Latter-day kingdom occured. Not just a retelling of historical events, this book is a fascinating collection of eyewitness accounts from more than a hundred people who lived in Kirtland at the time. Their thoughts and testimonies, which are recorded in letters and journals, recount experiences in living and working with Joseph Smith.

Review Excerpt:

"After reading Karl Anderson's book about Joseph Smith and Kirtland I was able to understand how crucial this time was in the formation of church it's doctrine and policy. The spiritual outpouring of this era are so magnificent and very well captured and explained in this book. It is a rich, spititually guided time in the early church. I have used stories and quotes from this book in several lesson and plan to use it again as a supplement to my research in teaching The Doctrine & Covenants in 2005." -- J. Kane, California, 2004

Karl R. Anderson was also one of three compilers/editors for the book, Teachings and Commentaries on the Doctrine and Covenants.
