Covenants, Prophecies and Hymns of the Old Testament

Of all the books in the Old Testament, the three most often quoted by the Savior and most frequently referred to in other standard works are Deuteronomy, Isaiah, and Psalms. This year's Sperry Symposium volume examines these three books, focusing especially on Deuteronomy's discussion of covenants, Isaiah's prophecies, and the Hebrew hymns in Psalms. Noted gospel scholars and teachers in the Church Educational System investigate important aspects of these books, helping readers more fully appreciate them and better understand the lessons they teach about our day. The chapters address such wide-ranging subjects as the images of mercy in Isaiah, temple imagery in Psalms, and Jesus' use of Deuteronomy during his temptations.

Contributors include Elder John M. Madsen of the First Quorum of the Seventy, W. Jeffrey Marsh, Victor L. Ludlow, Matthew O. Richardson, Karen Lynn Davidson, Paul Y. Hoskisson, Donald W. Parry, D. Kelly Ogden, Richard D. Draper, Noel B. Reynolds, Richard E. Bennett, Sherrie Johnson, Terry Ball, Jared W. Ludlow, Brian M. Hauglid, Victor H. Harris, and Gaye Strathearn.
