Lehi in the Wilderness: 81 New Evidences Documenting the Book of Mormon Is a True History
The Book of Mormon begins with a stirring account of LehiÆs family fleeing Jerusalem through the wilderness to a new home in the Americas. For decades, scholars have scoffed at many of the locations and conditions described by LehiÆs son Nephi. This new evidence shows that NephiÆs account is completely accurate. Two Latter-day Saints, with unprecedented access to the lands of the Middle East, have completed a six-year odyssey documenting the actual locations of LehiÆs journey from Jerusalem to the land of Bountiful. Their discoveries give tangible proof of the locations described by Nephi in the Book of Mormon. Through the authorsÆ detailed descriptions, careful research, and spectacular photographs, such places as the River of Laman, the Valley of Lemuel, and the Land of Bountiful come alive. The authors also make clear where Nephi could have found wood to replace his broken bow, why the Lord commanded them not to build fires, and how Nephi could have built a ship to cross the sea. Follow these modern explorers as they share 81 evidences that validate the Book of Mormon account. Contents: 1. Discovering the Valley of Lemuel 2. Jerusalem and the Way of the Wilderness 3. The River of Laman and Valley of Lemuel 4. Lehi's Trail to Southern Arabia 5-8 Discovering Bountiful 9. Discovering Nephi's Harbor Review Excerpts: "This (Lehi in the Wilderness by George Potter and Richard Wellington) is a rare and beautiful book. In this neat package we have all the evidence we need to convince us. After this, those who challenge the Book of Mormon will have some heavy explaining to do." --Hugh W. Nibley _____ "The book closes with tributes to Nephi and to Joseph Smith, Jr. Both essays are moving and heartfelt. There is so much to admire about this book. The dedication and perseverance of the authors are to be commended. Driven by a quest for understanding and clarity, they've devoted time, talent and treasure to their quest for the holy grail of Book of Mormon studies -- the location of Lehi's trail. ... To their credit, the authors understood the need for a balance between scholarship and anecdote. Their journeys yielded some interesting, and often amusing, interactions with the indigenous peoples of the Arabian peninsula, and we get to listen in on some of these discussions. However, all of this can be overshadowed by their passion for certainty where certainty is not warranted. As most Book of Mormon scholars will agree, the final word on any element of Book of Mormon geography has not yet been written. So much is yet to be learned, it is surely premature to close the book on the Book and dismiss other conclusions. As distracting as these "certainties" are, the book has merit as it takes the reader through a part of the world not familiar to most." --Jeffrey Needle, Reviewer, The Association for Mormon Letters George D. Potter earned his Masters from the University of California at Berkeley and is an amateur Book of Mormon explorer and President of the Nephi Project. He has produced eight films on his Book of Mormon research. His discovery of a Valley of Lemuel candidate was published by FARMS/BYU in the November 1999 issue of the Journal of Book of Mormon Studies. Dr. Richard Wellington graduated from GuyÆs Hospital Dental School, University of London in Paedodontics and Orthodontics and taught at the University of the Witswatersrand in Johannesburg. He earned a Masters in Conservative Dentistry at the Eastman Institute, London University and worked for over 18 years as a specialist in Prosthodontics in Saudia Arabia for the Arabian American Oil Company. It was here that Richard met George Potter and they started their work on Old World Book of Mormon geography. In 2000 Richard graduated as a C.D.T. (certified dental technician) from the US National Board of Certification and returned to the England where he presently works in private practice.
