Testaments: Links between the Book of Mormon and the Hebrew Bible

David E. Bokovoy and John A. Tvedtnes, Tooele, Utah: Heritage Distribution, 2003, 6x9" softbound, 232 pages.

An introduction to several key literary, cultural, linguistic, and religious connections between the Book of Mormon and the Old Testament.

Since 1830, millions of people have read the Book of Mormon and studied its claims for ties with the ancient world. The Book of Mormon begins with references to Jerusalem and the Hebrew Bible. Readers often wonder to what extent the Book of Mormon reflects the literary, cultural, and religious world of ancient Israel. In the book Testaments, these and other issues are carefully addressed in a reader-friendly style. The authors illustrate that the Book of Mormon shares much in common with the Old Testament. These exciting links provide clear evidence that the Book of Mormon and Hebrew Bible serve as related testaments of the Savior Jesus Christ and his restored gospel.

Review Excerpt:

"My many years of reading Mormon apologetic literature has created a process of categorization that some may feel is a bit broad, but I believe helpful in developing a philosophy about such books. One of the criteria is the book's inherent honesty. Does it present its subject in a way that impresses the reader that the authors are correctly representing their subject? Do the authors make claims that are supportable, or do they make wild claims not supported by the evidence? ... While the authors do not underestimate their readers' ability to learn and assimilate information, they recognize and respect the fact that many readers will be "beginners" in their study. They achieve a nice balance, being neither condescending nor overly-technical. ... Both students and teachers of the Book of Mormon will find this volume of value. It gives the reader insights into the nature of ancient scripture, demonstrates interesting linkages with the Book of Mormon, and enriches the study of both." --Jeffrey Needle, Reviewer, Association for Mormon Letters
