What is a covenant? Ask anyone and the answer is sure to come quickly, almost automatically,” A covenant is a two-way promise.” Such an answer is certainly true as far as it goes, but does not go very far. What is the nature of a covenant? Are there different types of covenants? Who makes covenants, and under what terms and conditions? What happens if it is broken?
